  • The Command: "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities"

  • The Comprehensiveness: "every person"

  • The Concept: What does it mean to "be subject"?

II. The Providence of Sovereignty (v. 1b-2)

  • The Source of Authority: "For there is no authority except from God"

  • The Structure of Authority: "those that exist have been instituted by God"

  • The Seriousness of Resistance: "Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed"

III. The Purpose of Statecraft (v. 3-4)
